Ryze Tech Tello – mini drone
The manufacturer, DJI, is well-known for being a leader in civilian robotics and drones. And they’re drones specifically designed for kids and young adults do not disappoint!
The drone comes with an excellent 720p camera and supports the easy sharing of media to various social media accounts. Built into the drone is a 14-core Intel processor that can be plugged into a computer via a USB. Once kids get more advanced with the drone, they can develop software applications for Tello using the Tello SDK.
This was a close contender for “best educational drone” due to its built-in Scratch programming support. Kids can command Tello to perform movements by dragging coding blocks on their smart mobile device. They can also develop programming skills by playing games and completing levels with their drone.
While we don’t recommend this drone for small children, we highly recommend this drone if you want top-of-the-line features in a kid-friendly drone.

Potensic upgraded A20 mini drone
Budget definitely does not mean bad with this little guy!
Parents who bought this drone for their kids cited the drone’s ease of operation. The drone comes with a hover-hold feature that removes the z-axis from having to be controlled, once the drone reaches the desired altitude. This makes it super easy for a young child to learn to fly!
It includes shock-absorption design because even the best navigator will likely crash into the floor from time to time. It’s one of the most durable and well-made drones to come in at under $30, making it an affordable option for budget-conscious parents.

ATTOP mini drone for kids
All the drones on our list are safe for kids. However, this agile little drone was designed specifically with safety in mind, which makes it our top pick if you’re buying for a small child.
The propellers get further protection in this model, making it hard for a small kid to even stick their fingers into them.
It includes other features like altitude holding and 3D flipping. Best of all, once the drone has been calibrated, it can simply be tossed into the air to get it flying, where it will hover until controlled by the remote. Little kids will find this very cool!

Force1 Scoot hand-operated drone
Look, mom! No remote!
With the Scoot hand-operated drone, all kids have to do is put their hand near the UFO-shaped drone to make it move in any direction. The Scoot comes equipped with motion sensors that essentially push the drone in the opposite direction of the hand.
It’s also great for indoor use, as it comes equipped with obstacle-avoidance sensors that prevent collisions before they happen. It comes with LEDs that make it look extra cool with the lights off.
Force1’s Scoot drone has been the gold-standard for hands-free drones since the Scoot was released. We highly recommend this drone as a first drone for kids!
