Give Your Uuni Pizza Peel A Handle For Maximum Pizza Slinging Action

By admin ·

The pizza peel that comes with the Ooni (formerly known as Uuni) is a workable first pizza peel, but after a few pizzas, I really wanted a handle. I decided to add a handle using a simple 1″ dowel rod. Here’s how I did it!

1

Gather materials

1″ screws are just long enough to go through the peel and dowel without protruding too far on the other side.

2

Mark the dowel for your cut

Measure over about 1/4″ and make a straight mark that runs across the end of the dowel. Extend the mark 3″ down the length of the dowel on both sides. That line will keep us on track while cutting.

3

Cut down the length of the dowel

A vise is very helpful at this step although you could get away with a clamp.

4

Cut across the grain to remove the piece

5

You should have a flat ledge in your dowel

6

Mark the two screw holes by lining up the “i” in “ooni”

My pizza peel is from when the company was still called “Uuni”, so yours might look slightly different than mine. This is more or less the center of the pizza peel, how convenient!

7

Drill the holes through the dowel

Using a 3/8″ drill bit, drill all the way through the dowel being careful to drill slowly and as straight as possible.

8

Thread the screws through the dowel and pizza peel

Add the washers and tighten the nuts.
