How To Use Migration Assistant To Migrate From Pc To Macbook
I just bought a new MacBook to use for my upcoming courses.I set it up, migrated my data, and began using it within the hour.
Setting up a new MacBook might take bit of time, but it really isn’t as difficult as it may seem. In fact, you can set up your MacBook in under 25 minutes.
However, migrating data can certainly take more time than that, though it depends on the amount of data being transferred amoung other things.
In this guide, I will show you how to efficiently transfer data from your Windows PC to your MacBook.
Migration Assistant preperation:
- Make sure both of your devices are up to date.
- Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Note: Some of these steps may vary depending on your Windows PC, software versions, and other variables.
Download Migration Assistant
On your PC, visit support.apple.com and download the Migration Assistant app for Windows.
To download the Migration Assistant app:
- Visit support.apple.com
- Click “download.”
- Allow the app to make changes (this prompt may occur more than once).
- Open the download.
- Click “next.”
Open Migration Assistant
On your MacBook, open Migration Assistant. If you aren’t sure where to locate it, don’t worry. There are several ways. The easiest is to search for it using Spotlight Search.
Click Continue
On your MacBook, click “continue” in the Migration Assistant app.
Enter Your Admin Name and Password
Enter in your MacBook’s admin name and password.
Choose the Method of Transfer
In this case, choose “from a Windows PC.” Then, click “continue.”

Connect both devices to power.
Choose the PC
The PC will appear in Migration Assistant. Once it does, click “continue.”
Confirm the Number
Check that the numbers on the PC and MacBook match. On the PC, click “continue.” Then, click “continue” on the MacBook too.
Select the Information to Transfer
Select the information to transfer and click “continue.” If you are unsure, don’t alter the data and allow it all to transfer.
Enter and Create the User Password if Prompted
At this point, you may need to create a password for the user on your MacBook. Once you do, click “set password.”
Let the Data Transfer
Allow the data to transfer. The time may jump and move until the data is done transferring.
Click “Done”
That’s it! Migration is now complete! Click “done” on your MacBook and close Migration Assistant on your Windows PC.
